Kodi giving Afton a goodbye hug after our afternoon in the canyon.
Kodi is the most graceful person I've ever known. She is consistently beautiful from her physical appearance down to her core. She is patient, mature, thoughtful, and nurturing beyond her age. I'd be a much better person if I had even half of her poise.
I love and admire you, little lady.

P.S. At first I felt like this photo wasn't as "good" as I wanted it to be. The lighting and composition isn't what I normally look for when I'm choosing a weekly portrait, but I've grown to really love this photo. I think it captures Kodi's lovely personality well.

Dad in golden sunset light down by the lake.
I flagged this photo to be a weekly portrait the moment I saw it. I love this expression.
My sweet pa (a new name for him that I've adopted lately).

Amanda at the Scera Shell to see Cinderella.
As we drove home after the play she said, "if a guy I had only known for one night tried to kiss me, I'd slap him." There's so much to say about Mandy. She's bursting with the most hilarious and lovely personality. She really cracks me up. She's blunt and goofy and mature and kind.

Christina outside of Aunt Joyce's just after sunset.
Christina and I are both in-between cousins. We're a little older and a little younger than our other extended family members. We are the cousins who simultaneously inhabit the role of babysitter and babysat. And now she is also at an in-between age. Not quite a teenager but no longer a kid.

Andrew making very classically Andrew faces after his graduation ceremony.
What can I say about this punk brother? I love him and I'm sure glad he was able to pull this off. We all know it was a close one.

Trev and Port at the aquarium. Look at Porter holding on to his finger in the first photo, so sweet.
These aren't the best photos I've ever taken. The light in the aquarium was dim and green. I chose these because they remind me of a time when I was small and Trevor (always our smart and scientific cousin) would take me out into the desert while our family camped to teach me to catch lizards.

Grandpa K at Grandpa P's during a visit from California. That scab on his chin? He tells me it's from a little fall skateboarding (or something like that).
A pilot, an ad man, a tech CEO, a photographer, a Stanford grad. My grandpa is packed full of stories about his life that I desperately need to weasel out of him.

I Can't Take You Guys Anywhere
The nineteenth of 52 portraits of my family in 2014.
I love this. Dad embarrassed while his wife and daughter take photos at dinner.
I think my best portraits this year will all be of my dad (though they may all be of him sitting up to a table). His thoughts and feelings translate so perfectly through his expressions; one of many reasons he is among my favorite subjects. I embarrass him sometimes, but he is loving always. I'm so thankful I have him to keep our family safe and sane.

Nostalgia.
I have spent so much time staring at it. I keep it tucked away in a folder on my computer and every now and again I click to it and study.
This photo was taken during the happiest time in my life thus far. The shadow outlines the shape of a photographer and friend who I love immensely. The blurred background is a reminder of a beautiful solitary place during a season of exploration and enthusiasm. It preserves me in a moment of absolute contented happiness, my smile easy and honest. Even the photo's medium (35mm film) documents a period of learning and artistic experimentation.
This photo reminds me of the power of photography. The lighting isn't even, the film is grainy and marked, but the photo speaks regardless. It sings really.
At least to me.
