Afton
The seventeenth of 52 portraits of my family in 2014.

Afton holding in her giggles during a hike with the family.

This week I had an abundance of portraits of my family, but I choose to feature Afton because she cracked me up all of Easter weekend. This wild-haired girl is such a spunky, vibrant, funny little human. She told jokes and danced and sang and collected rocks and held lizards and gave back massages and when we hiked over a plateau on Saturday, she faced the climb fearlessly (except for one moment during the descent when, worried we wouldn't be able to get down, she held my hand and said, "I don't want anyone in my family to die," breaking my heart). She is such a sweet babe, full of goofy sassy energy and lots of love.

Sunday Drives

I'm grateful for rainy Sunday afternoons, having my beloved red Indiana Jones safari vehicle in running order, my driving companions, and living just a few minutes from this view.

DarthYodaNic
The sixteenth of 52 portraits of my family in 2014.

Nic and that expression of his at Comic Con.

My honorary brother. As my mother said recently, "well Nic, I guess you're really a part of this family because Nicki's starting to get mad at you."

Doogan-Dog
The fifteenth of 52 portraits of my family in 2014.

A sleepy Doogan peeking up at me from the edge of my bed.

Dogs are family-members too.
Check out the look he's giving me. Clearly, he's not interested in being woken up from his nap to be photographed. It's during moments like this that I question his role as mankind's best friend, because I'm sensing a lot of resentment here. But then I'll sit down on the couch in the middle of the afternoon and he'll get up from wherever he's sleeping, unprompted, to come curl up next to me.
I wanted a dog for a long, long time growing up, and even with the attitude Doogan was worth the wait.

San Francisco in Spring

If you're going to San Francisco...

Eat lunch on the steps of the amphitheater at the end of the music concourse in Golden Gate Park.

Wander through the Japanese Tea Garden that's right across the street.

Drive through the Presidio and admire all of the pretty white houses.

Visit the Palace of Fine Arts at golden hour. It looks like Heaven.

Climb around on the ruins of the Sutro Baths down by the sea.
